The Experience

Immerse yourselves in the stylish era between 1900 and 1930 in this rare example of a house that’s hardly been touched or modified since then. From the original bathroom taps to the restored and re-laid parquet flooring, wonderful stained glass windows, grand staircase and oil paintings – this is real-life Downton à la française! Breakfast is served in the Grand Salon – from a simple pastry all the way through to cooked options, you choose – and suppers can be ordered from the local deli.

Explore the acres of grounds, filled with mature trees, ponds and statues or find a lounger on the shady terrace and enjoy one of the many books or art magazines from the library. Bedrooms are large, opulent and very comfortable with views over the gardens and treetops.

As befitting a house on the French ‘Monuments Historiques’ list, you’ll find display cabinets filled with fascinating artefacts showing the daily life of a French bourgeois family.

  • Being so near the city centre but having the quiet gardens to take root in
  • Catching the bus into town so you don't have to worry about parking – the bus stop is right outside the house

Introducing

Matthieu Chauvin

The house has been in Matthieu's family for over a hundred years. He and Bernadette inherited it in 2016 and are the perfect creative team to have overseen the restoration of it for guests. Matthieu worked as a film director in Paris and now they both work in design, mainly glass and jewellery – you'll see some of Bernadette's work on display in the entrance hall.
