The Experience

High up, hugging the edge of this lush valley, is a big old house with amazing views. After a breakfast of fruit juice, homemade bread, cake and many jams you can go on a guided walk with friendly Grégoire, accompanied by a picnic.

Return to lazy laps in the saltwater pool, in a hillside garden full of wild flowers. Whether waking in your quirky comfy bedroom or enjoying an aperitif under the stars, the valley is always there – and is especially lovely in autumn.

Don’t miss the table d’hôtes! Their five-course dinners, accompanied by Beaujolais and Mâconnais wines, are inventive and delicious and you never get the same dish twice.

Reviews

Wonderful cuisine, wonderful company, wonderful views and fine walking, not to mention the fabulous wines of Beaujolais just a short drive away. We look forward to returning one day...

Sandra, Malpas

A real oasis after our drive from the Chunnel. Well worth the half hour detour from the autoroute. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a sparkling, refreshing pool. Bliss. Stunning views, delicious food and wine. What more can you want?

Marion, Perth, Scotland

We booked the family room for a 1 night stay to break up a long journey. How glad we did! A little further than we had realised from the motorway, but worth the extra drive. Stunning scenery, a gorgeous family home with views across the valley. Purchasing some Beaujolais on route, we were warmly welcomed. Had a refreshing dip in the pool, a walk, nibbled cheese with a glass of wine whilst our children played at the rural play area a 2 min drive away. Then back for a delicious home cooked meal with local wine under the stars. Simple, rustic, friendly, relaxing…we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

Victoria, Canterbury

A delightful place to stay, with charming, welcoming and conscientious hosts. Beautiful, peaceful garden with secluded spots to relax and take in the views. Lovely dinner, cooked by someone who knows their food, with plenty of local wine included. Very good price for such a good quality, relaxing and well-run chambre d’hote. We will be back.

Richard, Colchester

We had a wonderful stay with Christine & Gregoire at Le Verriere, high in the Beaujolais hills. We had the Table d'hotes which was a good decision; grilled salmon with garden vegetables, a selection of cheeses & a delicious fruit pannacotta to finish. Sitting with other travellers is always a good way to test our french as we sipped the local wine, aperitifs & digestifs, we slept well! Breakfast was equally generous with fresh bread & croissants, homemade jams & local honey. Le Verriere is not just a great stop off point from the ports but also a wonderful place to stay. Merci beaucoup!

Jane, Bath

A beautiful, peaceful spot just half an hour from the autoroute where you can be treated to excellent home cooking and enjoy the extensive hill-side rose garden and pool!

June, Sawday's inspector

A very relaxing and beautiful place to stay. Excellent food and great hosts. We were able to take advantage of the swimming pool and would definitely go back.

Chris, Ipswich UK

a very warm welcome, we stayed two nights and had two very good dinners, breakfasts were a treat with homemade jams cakes etc. highly recommended

john

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our limited French was not a problem. Gregoires' use of local produce and his skills as a chef made the warm and comfortable stay complete. Both Christine and Gregoire are the perfect hosts. The views are spectacular. If you are coming to see the Beaujolais region then this is the place to stay. Cheers Rod & Isobel

We were made to feel very welcome by Christine and Gregoire - even the dog! The house is in a beautiful location and the rooms are very well presented. The meals cooked by former chef Gregoire were the highlight of our stay, from the wonderful duck and dauphinois at dinner to the home baked baguette and homemade jams for breakfast. We'll definitely be back!!

Andy

Allison

Location

The neighbourhood

The house overlooks the Beaujeu valley, a lush landscape of meadows, woodland and vines. The nearest sleepy village is Les Ardillats, 5km, and the hiking and biking are marvellous; you can link up with the GR76 just behind. Within a half-hour drive are many Beaujolais vineyards, starting with the organic wines of Domaine de la Bonne Tonne where the soil is worked by horse. The hand-picked vines of Domaine Richard Rottiers are worth discovering too.

Local points of interest from Grégoire Lamy

  • Our garden is the first "Gîte au jardin" in the department; come and admire the fabulous view from our tiny terraces!
  • If you are an active person, we can help you find something you enjoy doing. It will be possible for you to go-ape; go cycling around the neighbouring passes, or walk to Mt St Rigaud (1009 m) through GR 76 (the path is just behind the house).
  • There are many beautiful paths all around our house you can wander, and the swimming pool to relax by in summer (10m x 5, salt filtered, with no added chlorine, safety fence for children).
  • Discover Beaujolais's wines and their villages, Cluny and the roman churches of the Brionnais region, and Lyon, at one hour from our house. And go and taste local wine, goat's milk cheese, honey, jam…!
  • Our tables d'hôtes: we enjoy cooking and sharing these moments with you, alternating traditional, inventive, international or Beaujolais cuisine. Our wines come from Beaujolais and Mâconnais, our jams and aperitif drinks are home made.
  • In summer, we can serve the breakfast or the dinner outdoor, on the terrace. In other seasons, a fireplace sweetly warms up our two dining rooms.

Introducing

Grégoire Lamy

Gregoire, an excellent cook, home-smokes his salmon and makes his own jams; Christine creates unusual flower-based aperitifs. Here they live with one gentle dog, in a house that was Christine's great-grandparents' holiday home, full of happy memories. They love food, cooking and the outdoor life, and sharing this special place.
