The Experience
Sporty sybarites will love this special place, tailor-made by charming hosts who really know what’s needed for a group getaway. Like a six-person sauna, swish bedrooms with terraces and balconies, a peach of a cutting-edge cook’s kitchen and, of course, a huge boot/ski room and laundry.
Map adores cooking and can advise on local caterers; Andrew loves skiing and knows the area really well. They are mainly away in the summer (agents take perfect care of everything in their absence, including baby-sitting/kid’s club) when this area of the Alps, close to the Swiss border, is another sort of sporting heaven – for walkers, cyclists and white-water rafters.
And all the fun, good food and fashion of Morzine are just a stroll down the drive away. Wander back to relax in the lofty living space with its peaceful, majestic mountain views – bliss.

We were a party of 11 and from the moment we arrived until we left we couldn't have had a more wonderful stay. The chalet is beautifully appointed and a short walk to all the beautiful shops and delis. The bedrooms are excellent, super comfortable mattresses, black out shutters and en suite bathrooms or shower rooms. The kitchen is the best equipped we have ever seen and the living room comfortably seats 12 for evening fun and games. A fabulous family holiday and one we will definitely repeat.

Location
The neighbourhood
Morzine’s many restaurants, cafés and shops, its ice rink, pool, cinema and music festivals are close by. In winter it’s a thriving ski resort - part of the Portes du Soleil ski area - and there’s a whole range of other snow sports to choose from. In summer you can go hiking, biking, climbing, paragliding and white-water rafting. Artists and photographers are drawn to the magnificent scenery of the French Alps too. Geneva airport is an hour and a half away.
Local points of interest from Map Black
- Morzine is a charming old market town centrally located in the vast Porte de Soleil ski area offering a wide variety of slopes and pistes in both France and Switzerland that will appeal to all ability levels.
- No need for a car here. All Morzine's amenities: from shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants to the Tourist Office, swimming pool and ice rink are only a short walk from the chalet. And our favourite patisserie is only two minutes from the front door!
- The Super Morzine ski-lift to Avoriaz and the Plenney lifts to the Morzine/Les Gets ski areas are clearly visible from the chalet and only a few minutes' walk from the ski/boot room.
- It takes about three minutes to access the River Dranse which offers trails through beautiful scenery for walkers and runners in both summer and winter. You will also get to meet the riding school horses, which are now down by the river all year round.
- Les Roches Noires has a large SW facing balcony, which is perfect for relaxing in the sun later in the day, overlooks the pistes from Pleney and provides a grandstand view of the town's frequent (every Tuesday in early winter) firework displays.
- We subscribe to the summer Multipass scheme, which gives the chalet's residents the right to buy a low cost pass that provides free access to the lifts (for walkers), swimming pool, tennis courts and other amenities and discounts on other activities.

Introducing
Map Black
Map and Andrew are simply passionate about skiing…and about ensuring that their guests have the best time. They spent years searching high, and higher, for the right spot to build a big, luxurious chalet to run as a business, with all the things that their family would enjoy around them. Finally they settled on this site in Morzine, where they had stayed in the neighbouring chalet; the results of the rebuild - unveiled in 2015 - are quite something.
We had a brilliant week in Les Roches Noir. The chalet is delightful: minutes away from the ski lifts, wonderful shops and restaurants, yet the chalet is remarkably quiet and private with fabulous views of the mountains. The vast oak-designed interior has been designed to maximise light, space and comfort with SONOS music and mod cons throughout. The kitchen is more enjoyable to cook in than at home. Light the fire, relax in the sauna, rustle up dinner before finally collapsing into beds comfortable enough for royalty. This place is very special. We will be back.
