The Experience

Orlando’s great-great-grandfather bought the Castello, parts of which date from 1100; history seeps from these walls! And the renovation continues, by Orlando and Kira, gentle, charming, passionate about the family home whose exquisite revival has been achieved floor by floor; the latest addition is superior rooms with views. A terrace overlooks the arc-shaped pool, the ancient park, the valley, and the Adriatic beyond. The library combines vast armchairs with ancient tomes, there are antiques, chandeliers, sculptures, paintings, frescoes on every ceiling and wall – the sheer beauty will thrill you. Stroll through the centuries-old trees to the village, visit the church, tuck into pastries, lunch at the wonderful taverna nearby. Return to vast, splendid bedrooms where cherubs chase each other across ceilings and beds are soberly, beautifully dressed. Some cupboards have been crafted from the cellar’s barrels; one suite has its bath positioned so you gaze on gardens as you wallow. You wake to breakfasts al fresco and a dining room for drearier mornings – overseen by Bacchus and Ariadne, of course. Great value.

Reviews

This is the most lovely hotel, very comfortable and relaxing with friendly, helpful staff. A perfect place to unwind. Our room was large with plenty of space for three of us. Breakfasts were delicious and varied and dinner in the castle's courtyard was good too. The castle's gardens are beautiful with fruit and olive trees around the pool. A great place to have lunch and spend a hot afternoon. Senigallia with its blue flag beach is 20 minutes away, the Conero coves/beaches and pretty towns are about 50 minutes away and Urbino an hour. Would highly recommend it.

Just perfect! Orlando and Kira are wonderful hosts; warm and friendly and offer fantastic tips of where to go and what to do. The Castillo is just stunning, Beautiful and undoubtedly the best accommodation I have stayed in ever! I’d definitely recommend that you visit. You will be glad you did.

11 out of 10. Probably the finest place that we have ever stayed at in our lives. Absolutely AWESOME value (especially if you book a bit in advance). Simply put, you stay in a genuine old castle, eat a wonderful breakfast while gazing over the Italian countryside and enjoy a stunning pool and gardens to die for. All in a tiny, ancient village 10 minutes from the Adriatic. Orlanda and Kira (and their divine staff) make it all happen with care and a smile. It's their home and they bend over backwards for their guests. And... all in fabulous Le Marche. Did I mention that it was a bargain ????

Local points of interest from

  • Monterado is a quiet village, located in the hills just 12 km away from Senigallia and it is very easy to reach the beaches, the hills or the enchanting medieval nearby villages.
  • You can have a walk through the centuries-old forest of the Castle, head into the village square to visit the main Church and meet people immersed in their daily lives and buy hot bread in the local bakery.
  • Tavernetta sull'Aia is a cozy restaurant, just 50 meteres away from the Castle, and a happy meeting place for lovers of simple and true flavors of the best culinary tradition of the Marche: handmade pasta, piadina, local meat, homemade desserts.
  • A few kilometers away in the direction of Senigallia, you can also taste the delicacies of La Madonnina del Pescatore and Uliassi, both rewarded over the years with 2 Michelin stars.
  • Discover the surroundings! You can visit lovely walled ancient villages such as Corinaldo and Mondavio (5 and 15 minutes by car). Do not miss the city of Urbino, the cradle of Renaissance (one hour by car) and the Frasassi Grottoes (50 minutes by car).
  • Do you love shopping? You can easily reach from the castle the outlets of some of the most prestigious Italian brands of footwear, clothing and furnishing, strictly made in Italy: Poltrona Frau, Tod's, Prada, Rossi to name a few of them.
