The Experience
A classic country townhouse between Turin and the Alps – this noble family villa exudes centuries of elegance. It’s a 17th-century stroll from the main square in Cumiana’s charming town centre. Step through gates to a pretty garden presided over by a fine magnolia tree and a former hay barn, to be greeted warmly by Signora Sacchi. An architect whose two children grew up here, she will happily advise on all things local, from eateries to historic buildings, to ski resorts – and can easily arrange bike hire. You breakfast, Italian-style (special diets, eggs etc no problem if arranged in advance) at one table outside or in the impressive frescoed and wood panelled living/dining room. Trompe l’oeil country scenes decorate the hall and stairwell. Up on the first floor are two comfortable suites with garden views: ‘Camelie’ has a wrought iron queen-sized double and twin sofa-beds, and a big walk-in shower; ‘Margherite’ has a double and a twin room, a separate living room and a big granite-tiled bathroom with tub. Both have vaulted ceilings, terracotta tiles, antique furniture, attractive lighting and fabrics. Lovely.

We stayed in the small independent house at Villa Palmitia for a quick break visiting the area, including Turin. Silvia is the most wonderful host, very discreet with excellent French and good English. Her home offers clean, comfortable accommodation and an excellent breakfast. The little house is probably not as pretty as the main B&B rooms but it suited us perfectly and we enjoyed eating our breakfast in the house, which is beautifully decorated. We loved everything about our stay and will return.

A wonderful welcome in this beautiful family house. Breakfast was absolutely superb (homemade cakes, pies, strawberries with mint etc etc) and thus was a perfect location for exploring both Turin and also the lovely mountain villages.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Silvia Sacchi
- Nearby you can visit the Savoy Residences, a crown of royal residences of the Savoy royal family of the XVII-XVIII century. One of the most beautiful is Venaria with its magnificent gardens, now seat to exhibitions
- Turin is a beautiful city, unknown to classic Italian tour but full of elegant buildings, Shopping streets, interesting museums. The most famous is the Egyptian Museum, second in the world after Cairo.
- Another special museum in Turin, which is about half an hour drive, is the Automobile Museum, fascinating journey in the car's history, rich in rare or unique pieces.
- The Valentino Park is a large park that is developed on the banks of the river Po, the longest in Italy. Here you can go jogging or have a good time with the kids, have lunch on the banks of the river in a country atmosphere, but in the city center.
- A few kilometers from Cumiana there is the town of Pinerolo, with a medieval town, a beautiful cathedral and a square with cafes where take special aperitifs.
- In Cumiana there is a large church in 1700 with a special oval cover and beautiful frescoes inside, a baptistery that is a little gem where every Christmas has set up a great animated Nativity.

A little difficult to find but delightful when we did. Signora was in Greece but we were looked after by her daughter, Victoria, who spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The garden was lovely; some sweet cats around and the villa interiors were full of pictures and books/ design magazines from years back. Wonderful vibrant colours everywhere.
