The Experience
An irresistible 30-acre lemon and olive farm – come in October and join in the olive harvest – the original home of Sebastiano and Maria Teresa, now passed to their son Luca. The limestone farmhouse occupies a converted olive mill and sits in tangled gardens, surrounded by grounds which yield a heavenly array of fruit and vegetables for use in Enza’s local specialities, inspired by Luca’s mother.
Rooms are spacious and charming, with tiled floors, traditional furniture, white walls and unfussy en suites tucked into corners. Signs of the building’s former use are prevalent, from the bed, on a section of glass floor for viewing the olive reservoir and the oil mill lounge. Sumptuous breakfasts of breads, cakes, fruit and cheese are served buffet-style from the kitchen table or out in the pretty garden.
This is authentic Sicily in all its Mediterranean glory, as seductive as you would imagine such a place to be.

We stayed here with my parents for three nights. I could have spent much longer here. The house and rooms are glorious but only part of the experience. Wander among olive & citrus groves, sit in the gardens or courtyard and drink in the views. The breakfasts are great. The dinners are amazing - sitting around a circular table with other guests and eating sensational Sicilian food. For what you get, this place is great value. Luca, the host is lovely. Meet people from all over the world here and you know its good as people come back year after year. Thankyou Luca for looking after us!

A group of us took the whole house and used it as a base. We loved it. Luca's family are perfect hosts and the dinners and breakfasts are to die for - all locally produced and beautifully cooked. There is plenty of shady space to relax or wander in on the estate if you just want to chill. Plenty of good places to swim in the sea and have lunch nearby. The rooms are really comfortable and very well furnished. It has a really happy atmosphere and Luca is full of good suggestions as to where to go and what to see. We could not have had a happier holiday.

Luca is the perfect host and the experience of dining with his family is wonderful and unique (though we got more out of it than the non-Italian speaking couple from the Home Counties). The house is wonderful and the cooking fresh and casalinga. It was a unique and memorable experience which we strongly recommend to our more adventurous friends.

Perfection in Sicily. A wonderful property with spacious rooms, a warm communal dining area, and spectacular orchards and groves. Theresa's cuisine is divine, Luca is a marvelous host and a wealth of local information, and Sebastiano is always willing to share his love for the olive groves. We were made to feel like family, and will be back for a return visit.

We stayed here in summer 2015 and it really was the higlight of our Sicily trip. Luca was a fantastic host and Casa Migliaca was the most beautiful experience from the food to the 'full of life' dinners around the olive mill stone table. The food was delicious, rustic Italien family food. The surroundings were peaceful and the accommodation simple and elegant. We hope to see you again Luca!

Glad to see you've added Casa Migliaca to the site! My sister-in-law and I stayed here in 2013 and both sent you a recommendation about it. It remains a favorite of ours. For anyone planning to visit Sicily (and it is well worth visiting), base yourself here for the north coast and prepare to enjoy long, pleasant evenings around the table (seats a dozen or so) with excellent food and wine and friendly conversation!

Location
The neighbourhood
You're high on a hilltop above the distant sea for wonderful views. The house is surrounded by woods where foxes, porcupines and martens bound around and two thirds of the land is cultivated by the biodynamic method of Rudoph Steiner. Visit Mistretta and Sperlinga or wander into Pettineo village (a ten-minute walk), visit Cefalù, explore the coast or take a boat trip to the Aeolian Islands.
Local points of interest from Gianluca Catalfamo
- Casa Migliaca is an active working farm, alongside the traditional olive oil production, cultivation of lemons. It covers approximately 12 hectares and with a constant flow of spring water.
- Ideal starting point for outdoor activities: maps available to those who want to find hiking routes of varying length and difficulty that are available nearby. The sea is just a few km away.
- In the period of the olive harvest, in Sicily usually the second half of October, you can actively participate and take home your share of oil in proportion to the olives harvested.
- Italian language courses for foreigners are held at Casa Migliaca, by reservation only, and conducted by professional teachers with daily, weekly or monthly lessons.
- Mistretta: ancient village with a strong medieval imprint which maintains, in an exemplary manner, its original architectural features; make sure you visit the alleys and streets of the town with stone buildings and the streets paved in stone.
- Cefalù: important tourist centre of Arab-Norman origins, do not miss a visit to the Cathedral, the Washing Saracens, and for the most willing the climb up to the rock above following the path up to the temple of Diana and then the medieval walls.

Introducing
Gianluca Catalfamo
Luca has dedicated himself to continuing the family business in this 400-year-old property. He grew up in Catania with summers spent at his grandparents' ancestral home; the decision to leave his career as an engineer and take over the agricultural and tourist family business came about naturally. While offering international guests a unique experience he oversees the production of his olive oil.
This is the place you will want to stay at if seeking a truly authentic Sicilian experience on a working farm. A naturally detoxing ambience with its abundance of aromas, fauna, flora and simplicity. Luca makes guests feel at home in his historic family home, sharing the secrets of the country life he has embraced. Convivial meals are truly a highlight where guests exchange daily adventures.
