The Experience
Down a narrow country road just 4km from Modica, you’ll find the farm. An L-shaped, one storey building has four bedrooms in a row plus the breakfast room. The cosy beamed sitting room with games has a fireplace, a long table and a lounge area. It’s big enough for table football and a couple of vintage motorbikes in the corner. Each room has its own outside space with wicker chairs so you can sit quietly surrounded by vines, oleander and palm trees.
A farm fresh Sicilian breakfast is served in the breakfast room, or you can fill your plate and take it outside. Fresh ricotta, local pecorino and canestrato, eggs from the owners’ hens and freshly baked bread, homemade jams and seasonal fruits will set you up for a long walk, then a dip in the shared pool. Francesco is a generous host and greets you with a refreshing drink or glass of wine.
You’re 9km from the sea and halfway between the historic cities of Modica and Scicli.

We spent three memorable days at Francesco’s farmhouse. We loved the ambience, the decor, the outside space and the delicious and generous breakfasts. Francesco was an excellent host helped us to make the most of opportunities in the area, from the beaches on the south coast to the Baroque masterpieces and restaurants in the nearby towns of Modica, Ragusa Ibla and Scicli.

Resourceful Francesco is a natural host and adores pointing the way to the not-so-obvious attractions in the area guiding guests to his favourite scenic walks, restaurants and local artisans. His passion and adherence to tradition makes a stay here move quickly from special to exceptional and certainly memorable. Comfortable suites, silence, bucolic views and incredible breakfast are add-ons.

Location
The neighbourhood
Modica is worth exploring with its steep medieval centre topped by the baroque cathedral. Here you'll also find Cantunera Modica on the main street for the best arancini (breaded and fried rice balls with ragù and mozzarella) and also, for outdoor eating, Singola Ristorante Naturale – all organic local specialities. Discover a coffee shop where the famous Modica dark chocolate is manufactured.
Local points of interest from Francesco Monisteri
- Noto is pleasant and easy to explore (its historic core is built essentially on a grid pattern). Climbing to the roof terraces of San Carlo is highly recommended, and the balconies of Palazzo Nicolaci are definitely a remarkable detail.
- The Baroque city of Ragusa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is divided into two parts: the upper city of Ragusa Nuova and a lower, older city, Ragusa Ibla.
- Vicoli di Ragusa Ibla - The old Ibla was largely destroyed in the heavy earthquake in 1693. Many residents did not want to move to the new upper town of Ragusa and rebuilt their homes.
- Duomo di San Giorgio - Cathedral in perfect Baroque style. Beautiful and passing through to reach the Modica viewpoint.
- Scicli - The town lies at an altitude of 106 m s.l.m. and 25 km south of Ragusa. The districts are Donnalucata, Scicli, Sampieri and Cava d'Aliga. The neighboring municipalities are Modica and Ragusa.

Introducing
Francesco Monisteri
Francesco, from Modica, decided to buy the farm 10 years ago and then branched out into taking guests. He is a hands-on owner who takes care of everything and understands your needs at a glance. His wife is in the wings and works as a teacher.
Masseria Quartarella is absolutely magical. Francesco & his family are delightful - every little touch made our stay so special. The buildings are gorgeous - very stylishly decorated, spacious & comfortable. The view overlooking the pool is magnificent, across unspoilt countryside - a wonderfully serene setting. Francesco produced the most amazing breakfasts, including heavenly cake baked by his wife & son. We really enjoyed chatting together, learning about life in Sicily as well as fabulous tips of places to visit and restaurants. Masseria Quartarella is really a VERY special place to stay.
