The Experience
Link up with guests, hosts and friends in house-party style as home-grown food is brought to the table and sublime wine flows. Charlotte and Alexander put you instantly at ease and their love of this place is infectious. Note the airy, bird-filled grounds, the rose-strewn courtyards and the 20,000 hand-planted vines. This old castle and its young vineyards are perched high in the Monte Amiata Natural Park. The area produces chestnuts, mushrooms, olives and wines. Virtually undiscovered, it’s known as the real Tuscany. Take lunch on the loggia overlooking the valley or stroll through the olive groves to the stunning pool on the hill. Each big beautiful bedroom, distinguished by vintage bathtubs, paintings, beams and books, oozes family history. If you love character, it’s a huge treat.

Location
The neighbourhood
Winding roads, vast views and organic farms characterise this enchanting area. The previously volcanic region of Monte Amiata, unknown to many, awaits discovery. Don’t miss the unspoilt hilltop villages of Arcidosso, Castel del Piano and Seggiano (2km), and their very good, simple restaurants. Hike in the largest beech forest in Europe; ski in the Amiata (it's magical).
Local points of interest from Charlotte Horton
- Castello di Potentino sits in a beautiful unspoilt valley which has hardly changed since the Renaissance- in the spring you can forage for wild asparagus, surrounded by blooming cherry trees and wild orchids in the fields.
- Monte Amiata behind Potentino is also home to a small ski resort in winter as well as being the 2nd highest (now extinct) volcano in Italy. There are beautiful woods all the way to the summit and hot springs of Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo and Saturnia

Introducing
Charlotte Horton
Charlotte Horton has restored two castles and made award-winning wines. She and Alexander, kind, generous and full of fascinating stories, make a wonderful team. They fight to protect the countryside and take on WOOFers to help with the wines. Evelina the housekeeper is the smiling face at breakfast, and Minerva the Great Dane is part of it all.
