The Experience

Families will enjoy staying here in a clutch of neat self-catering apartments on a family vineyard. The seven apartments, fanning out across the main house, barns and stables, come with stone or parquet floors, beamed ceilings and a cheery feel. A homegrown and locally produced buffet breakfast is served every morning, the rest of the time you look after yourselves or meals can be arranged in high season and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

Children will be happy hurling themselves into the shared pool, collecting eggs from the hens or getting stuck into books, toys and games in the communal sitting room. Adults can seek out a quiet spot in the colourful garden overlooking the valley, tour the vineyard, help with the harvest or sign everyone up for a family pasta making course.

There’s so much to keep everyone occupied but the farm is halfway between Florence and Siena for enticing days out.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the heart of the Chianti region and this family-owned 120 acres produces wine and extra virgin olive oil, both available to buy. Poggibonsi (5 km) and Certaldo (15 km) are the closest towns for dining and shopping. Visit the charming UNESCO village of San Gimignano (20km) for more restaurants. Florence (35km) and Siena (40km) are both close enough for day trips.

Local points of interest from Irene Sanesi

  • Gelso Bianco is located in a strategic position between the beautiful cities of Florence and Siena. From the gate of the estate you can see the famous medieval village of San Gimignano. Also very easy to reach other Tuscan villages
  • The medieval town of Barberino Val d'Elsa is 5 minutes away by car and has restaurants with beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside!
  • Badia a Passignano is located 20 minutes by car from Gelso Bianco. Today it is a monastery with a splendid cellar. Certainly one of the most beautiful panoramic points in the area.
  • The splendid Romanesque church of Sant'Appiano is only a few minutes away by car or can be reached with a walk of about 20 minutes. A true jewel of the Tuscan countryside.
  • Wines and a delicious extra virgin olive oil are produced at the Mulberry White! During your stay you can have tastings of our products (now also honey!) and visit other beautiful wineries in the area.

Introducing

Irene Sanesi

The Sanesi family bought the estate in 1977 and have slowly done up the outbuildings to let out to guests. Irene runs the holiday apartments and her brother concentrates on the wine and olive oil production. You're very well looked after, there's always someone on hand, and you'll find a helpful booklet with information and lots of advice about the local area in your apartment.
