The Experience

Perched high on a hillside with views so stunning it feels like you’ve stepped into a postcard, this rustic stone farmhouse has light-filled rooms, wood-beamed ceilings, a huge fireplace and the beautiful cotto floors that are so typically Italian. Outside there’s a terrace with a barbecue and a table for long, lingering lunches. Stairs lead down the pretty garden with the swimming pool and olive groves beyond.

Breakfast is a treat. Almost everything comes from within a mile or two – fresh yogurts and cheeses from a local dairy, traditional Corsini biscuits, homemade cakes and breads, organic free-range eggs, cured meats, and of course, excellent coffee. Dinners are convivial, served around a communal table with a choice of Tuscan wines.

Although you might be tempted to never leave, the owner Olivia can arrange guided tours and wine tastings too.

Reviews

We stayed at the farmhouse for a weekend together with my boyfriend and the dog and we had a great time, the house was really beautiful and comfortable and with a spectacular view of Umbria. I recommend trying the honey and oil produced by the family and especially the place if you are looking for a place to relax. We will definitely return.

Giuliana, San Casciano in val di pesa

San Casciano dei Bagni is very close to Rome and easy to reach, I often go there and for the first time I stayed at the B&B at Montefreddo. Very nice, very clean, very good breakfast (homemade cake and fresh croissant from the local bakery). Familiar ambience, elegant country style.

Domitilla, Rome

My daughter had a wonderful stay at Borgo Manfredi. Was made to feel right at home. As this was the slower season, the place was very quiet and beautiful. It is a working farm and olive harvest was in full swing. This is located in true country with quiet peaceful views everywhere. Olivia was a wonderful host, offered excellent travel suggestions for the area and joined my daughter for breakfast and conversation. The place has been in their family for hundreds of years. It feels a bit like a step back in Tuscan time. What a gem. Not too fancy, but very approachable, comfortable and genuine.

Allison, Iowa

Beautiful place for a stay in the summer, or warm up close to the big fireplace in autumn/winter. Stunning views of the Tuscan countryside and swimming pool for the summer months with a nice garden around.

Alessia, Sawday's Inspector

In one of most beautiful corners of Tuscany this B&B feels like home! Rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast was fantastic, with most genuine local products. Host family (dogs and cats included) makes you feel welcome! Definitely will come back!

Location

The neighbourhood

Blow the budget at Castello di Fighine (5km by car or a pleasant walk through the woods from the house), a Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by chef Heinz Beck. Visit Orvieto's incredible cathedral (36km) and marvel at the Renaissance architecture in beautiful Pienza (43km). Bathe in the healing waters of Fonteverde Spa (10km).

Local points of interest from Olivia Bologna

  • Montefreddo is a newly restored apartment, part of a farming estate that produces olive oil and wine. Set on a hill overlooking the magnificent Tuscan countryside, it is a perfect getaway to spend relaxing holidays and visit some of the most renowned towns.
  • The medieval village of San Casciano dei Bagni is only few miles drive from the property. Set in a marvelous natural contest in the southern part of Tuscany, in the province of Siena, is surrounded by oak woods and the main square has a magical view.
  • Some of the nicest day trips from Montefreddo are: Orvieto known for the beautiful Cathedral, Montepulciano the pearl of the 16th century, Pienza known for the Renaissance architectures, Montalcino where to taste the Brunello wine.
  • Most of our guests alternate lazy days by the pool and days spent discovering the territory, but there still may be some time to enjoy different experiences and dedicate to activities that will contribute to make your holiday at Montefreddo a unique one.
  • A holiday in Tuscany should, by all means, include the experience of a cooking class. In the familiar ambience of your kitchen or at their restaurant, “our” professional cook Dori, will share with you her secrets. Also ask for a home cooked dinner.
  • San Casciano is known for the warm healing waters of its springs since the Etruscan times. Today you can enjoy the benefits of thermal water at Fonteverde SPA, 10 km from Montefreddo.
