The Experience
Mornings here are slow and all the better for it – you have basic supplies in the kitchen and local eggs to scramble. If you want herbs, head outside to the rock garden and pick them yourself.
Surf, bodyboard or kitesurf at nearby Famara Beach – the overlooking cliffs are spectacular and it is easy to see why folk flock here. When you’re beached out take a trip along the Volcano Route through the Timanfaya National Park and marvel at this reserve made entirely of volcanic soil. If rain makes an appearance there’s plenty of space indoors to stretch out; stoke the wood-fired oven, gather round the piano or help yourself to a book and curl up. You’ve the site to yourselves so the peace is uninterrupted.
Share a meal outdoors in the former camel shed – they’re no longer residents and the view reaches out to the sea with La Graciosa island visible in the distance.

Situated in a remote part of the island which gives the cottage a feeling of freedom and alone on the planet. From the cottage you can look across to the other smaller islands. Everything in the cottage is well prepared and is made to make you feel as if it is yours. The island is generally windy, however around the cottage you can always find a protected area. A breathtaking view over Famara beach and mountains. A peaceful place. Around the cottage their are many typical desert like plants, some of which you can use for cooking, the cactus fruits, ideal for a dessert.

We had a great stay at this very stylish property with amazing views across the sands to the sea at Famara. A beautiful place to stay and unwind, and in a great central location- the charming town of Teguise is just 10 minutes away.

The Jewel in the Sand is a testimony to the owner’s (Vince) passion for this amazing island and its history. His dedication and hard work over many years is here to see and marvel at. Sadly Cezare Manrique is no longer here to see what he has achieved. The time, care, detail and thought that has been put into what was simply a pile of rubble. It has been transformed it into a place where others can enjoy the tranquillity of the sands. Listen to the birds and hear the winds, watch the beautiful skies at night and the amazing sunsets, see the volcanos and the Famara cliffs.

The cottage in the middle of the sands and not too far away from a little village and the sea side is really marvelous! We enjoyed our stay from the very first beginning until the last moment – for the second time now. A special place, lovely furnished with various seating possibilities outside (everyone with another sight!) and with very friendly hosts. We will be pleased to return!

The Jewel of the Sands is a very special and unique place! We keep coming and staying here every year and it is like our second home. It’s quiet, beautifully designed, always clean and safe. Vince is the best host, he takes care of us like a family, always available and helpful and fun to speak with. It is highly recommended!

Just had to comment on this very unique eco property. Very spacious and comfortable. The winning point for us is that it is situated in a beautiful part of the Island on its own with no neighbors. The views are lovely, where else would you look out a window and see camels grazing on a hill! The whole stay was bliss. Definitely be back.

Location
The neighbourhood
With the sea in the distance and a typical Lanzarote landscape of volcanic rock, it feels remote and beautiful here. But five minutes away is Tigua, head there to see other humans and pick up important supplies – El Tenique restaurant serves traditional fare. Quaint Teguise - reached in 15 minutes - has more choice, and a Sunday market to browse.
Local points of interest from Vincent Dean
- This lovingly restored property of over 200 years old, situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the island with amazing views across the natural reserve on to the mountains and cliffs of Famara with the sea and other smaller islands in the distance
- The house is full of charming features and detail which gives you the feeling of being in your own home. The walls are of stone, the floors thoughout with teracota and ceilings in beautiful wood. Most of the furniture is antique, a collection of many years
- The house has plenty of areas to relax, including a large lounge and dining area complet with a piano. Outside there are lots of private sitting and sunbathing areas, there is a raised secluded garden area surrounded by a rockery with herbs and plants.
- You can enjoy your own planetatium in the sunken garden, with no photo pollution the star nights are spectacular. The covered terrace for evening relaxation is also another cosy area to enjoy or for morning breakfast the camel house with breathtaking views
- From the house you can walk or cycle along the sandy tracks for miles without even seeing a car, where you will see the tremendous variety of bird life including the bastard, stone curlew, tabobo and cattle egret amonsts many others that live in this area.
- This property is unique, located in the middle of Lanzarote making easy access to other interesting points of the island. Where peace is the norm and where you will be made to feel at home with a host to make sure that your holiday has everything you wish.

Introducing
Vincent Dean
Vincent jumped at the chance to purchase this patch of land and rubble 30 years ago - and we’re glad he did. Slowly and thoughtfully he has restored this place with care, paying utmost respect to the national reserve it sits upon. He lives nearby - happy to tell you all about the area and his project. If you pop to his home he’ll show you his menagerie of rescued animals.
a very special place indeed. Beutiful location. Feels like nowhere else I have been, but easy to get to everywhere on the island. We loved the house and it is obvious that it has been restored and created with love and care. A home not a holiday rental. We will be back.
